Description
Dungeness A nuclear power station. Night-time view of Dungeness A nuclear power station in Lydd, Kent, England. Dungeness has two pairs of gas- cooled reactors (GCR), Dungeness A1 and A2, and Dungeness B1 and B2 (not seen). A1 and A2 started to produce electricity in 1965, each having a maximum output of 220 megawatts of electricity. The power station as a whole can produce 1550 megawatts. Nuclear power stations obtain energy from the fission (splitting) of the large nuclei of atoms like uranium in controlled chain reactions.
