Description
The name Bushtit comes from the Old Icelandic “titr” which means something small. It is one of the smallest bird species in North America. They are related to chickadees and titmice and are similar in size to kinglets. Bushtits are sprightly, social songbirds that constantly chatter as they travel around bushes and trees in small groups searching for insects.Though larger insect eaters forage on the upper surfaces of leaves and twigs, Bushtits find their prey beneath them. Protected from the rain and hiding out of sight from other birds, they can access tiny insects and spiders.
“Bushtit and Azalea Blossoms” is a hand-painted digital image completed in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 2/4/2024.
