Description
Comet Hale-Bopp passes through the night sky above Saguaro National Park near Tucson, Arizona in its Spring 1997 appearance. The white tail is ice and dust reflected by the sun. The blue, secondary tail is the glowing ion tail of the comet.
This wonderful phenomenon followed one year after Comet Hayakutake which I was able to admire many times but never properly photograph. When Hale-Bopp came to town I was determined to capture its amazing beauty. Thankfully the desert skies of April were stunningly clear to afford me the opportunity. This photograph was made using Kodak Gold ISO 1600 color reversal film.
