Description
The vibrant orange flowers of the Globemallow stands tall against a blurred natural background. The tiny petals are illuminated by afternoon sunlight, enhancing their color and delicate texture.
Globemallow (Sphaeralcea ambigua) are a sure indicator for the coming of spring to the deserts of the American Southwest. Its modest, 1-inch wide flowers begin to bloom in early March in Tucson, Arizona where this macro photograph was made. Though the brilliant orange color is most common, white, pink, peach, lavender and rose colors have also been noted, and the plant ranges from southern Utah and Nevada over to southeastern California, down into Arizona, along with Baja California and Sonora, Mexico at elevations up to about 3,500 feet.
Anyone who suffers from Entomophobia, the irrational fear of insects, or Myrmecophobia, a similar fear of ants should not view this image closely, for there is a superbly detailed ant visible in this photograph. Just saying...
