Description
An isolated State Park in Utah called Goblin Valley State Park, had the most “alien” forms of not just sandstone and bedrock displays, but also weeds! This interesting Desert Trumpet and its shadow, also known as wild Buckwheat, is commonly known as Native American Pipeweed. It is neither a weed nor invasive as many other plants. This unique flower is an herb. Native Americans tribes would cut the stalk of this plant at the bast and cut the bulbous area in half, making it into a pipe to smoke combinations of mistletoe and tobacco. As a note some insects will utilize the bulbous part of this plant to store food or hide. In fact, I came upon a spider who used one of these flowers for shelter.
