Description
Phacelia arizonica. So named because the flowerhead looks like the curled tail of a scorpion. Two sides of my property share a border with a national park. I live in the middle of nowhere. I have found 75 species of wildflowers on my property. I have also seen wildflowers every month of the year, including December and January! This is one of the prettiest. But don't follow the Doctrine of Signatures with this one. It can cause contact dermatitis. I never touch it; I just admire it. This photo was taken during the superbloom of 2023.

Such pretty flowers.but you are so right -- do not touch! Featured in American Desert Southwest. (I saw a tourist wearing shorts walk into a patch of them during a superbloom out at Death Valley. She lasted about two seconds and immediately regretted it. I didn't have a chance to warn her in time.)
