Description
From the superbloom of 2015. The Superstition Mountains are located west of Phoenix, Arizona. The saguaro cactus is Carnegiea gigantea. Ths one is at least 100 years old. They bear edible fruit and seeds (very delicious). The Tohono O'odham harvest them in a ceremony at the beginning of every July. Brittlebush are so named because the stems break off cleanly. They will fill a hillside with bright yellow flowers when winter rains are good. Encelia farinosa. This photo was taken in Lost Dutchman State Park.
