Description
The cycles of life and death in the Sonoran Desert are revealed in this detail of a small plot of ground in the Tucson Mountains west of Tucson, Arizona. That it is winter is evident by the newly ripened yellow fruit of the fishhook barrel cactus. They will provide a source of food for creatures of the desert into the dire summer months.
At the same time, the woody skeletal ribs of the fallen saguaro cactus have already delivered nutrients to the desert soil and the tiny critters that are the foundation of the food chain here, along with providing shelter for many of the same.
The day was cool and overcast when this photograph was made, allowing me to image the desert without the harsh contrasts normal under typically sunny skies.
This scene is typical to visitors to both Tucson Mountain Park and Saguaro National Park that protect this pristine desert ecosystem.

How SO blessed! this vision, your 'knowing', loving, your desert, Nature's gifts, that here again, you celebrate and share, to our benefit in their beauty, their 'story' of survival, for eons! What I also love here, Douglas, is how beautifully natural is this 'gathering's design , that only Nature could create to such perfection, visually, and, your glorious 'knowing' these in their natural habitat, to share with us......!! My highest love of this beautiful scene you've discovered; your love of Nature's love, of all these that depend on her. And, to me, also, we are blessed because you 'comprehen', in the life of the desert, just how stunning is ther SURVIVAL !! , you, being an expert on survival, too, in 'our' world!!! Kudos, my Friend, for your love shared here.....BiG FAV !!!!, and, thank you.....Ilove this ! It's like visiting the home of the proud owners who share it with us. VIVA , AWESOME ART. !
