"The Mermaid Detail Remix"
My favorite painting of all time is Howard Pyle's "The Mermaid," which resides at the Delaware Art Museum. I can sit (and have) and gaze at this beautiful work for hours on end. When I win the lottery I plan to make the museum an offer they can't refuse for this huge artwork, it would be the first thing I'd do after paying off our house. In the meantime, I am planning to satisfy myself by fair isle crocheting a sweater based on the painting, and because it is so big, I decided to hone in on the details of the lovers. Once I started playing with my image to get it ready for charting, I got lead down the inevitable path of remixing the artwork and couldn't resist taking it to the end. The colors have been changed from the almost entirely turquoise blue original, I used hues of coral, green, terra cotta, steel blue, black and beige for my contemporary version. I am just in love with it! I wonder if Howard would like it... I like to think he would. Please visit my Portraiture art gallery to see more of my portrait artwork.
