"Macaroni Smile" is one of a series of watercolor paintings I donated to "Second Harvest Food Bank of New Orleans" for use in advertisement.
I was asked to attend a dinner donated by "Second Harvest" for children living in the Central City area of New Orleans. If you are unfamiliar with Central City, it was crime-ridden and poverty dominated...it still maybe? I was even escorted to and from my car by men wearing army fatigues and berets from a group called "Living Witness.โ
I snapped a lot of photos of this dinner with the kids and the volunteers who cooked and served, but this one boy had it all-personality and cuteness-he was so photogentic!!! Of course the other children wanted pics taken of them posing for me while the Living Witness guys looked at them like "behave yourself."
All in all, I had a great night...I laughed and I learned a bit more about life on the other side of the street. I wish I would have known this boys' name, but I didn't want seem to favor him among his peers. I hope he is as happy now as he was in this artwork...
