Today, I look at this watercolor painting and remember how much fun it was to paint and how excited I was coming home from work just to paint a portion of it.
From the hanging garlic and peppers, to the tomatoes, to the cellophane wrapped boxes...it all just brought back fond memories…I even remember how fresh the market smelled mixing along with the heavy humid air. Unfortunately, the French Market does not look like this anymore, it has gone commercial. Less fresh food and more packaged tourist items. During my fathers’ culinary journey through life, he was the executive chef of Mr. B’s Bistro Restaurant located in the French Quarter. Occasionally, daddy would walk through the French Market to get “fresh foods and a few new ideas.” He would purchase fresh fish, fruit, and vegetables right off the boat for that days’ lunch and dinner specials. Yes Bob Dylan…“The Times They Are A-Changin'”
